Dunes in Late Sun

Dunes in Late Sun, 24″ x 48″ acrylic on canvas. Available.

Another in the recent series of dunes, titled Dunes in Late Sun.

We’ll see how long this dunes craziness lasts! Dennis and I visited Lake Michigan’s sandy shoreline for two days last week in search of more fuel to possibly feed the fire. I’d say my favorite scenes were in Ludington State Park. We stayed at their campground again this year, in our 21-foot “van camper”. I should call it my Luxury Artmobile, because it’s the vehicle that enables us to take photo expeditions (for painting references), and deliver canvases of any size…with all the comforts of home. This tiny motor home has surely been a blessing to us.

Thank you for your continued interest in my art, and for the many wonderful comments and conversations. As always, to purchase art or to ask any questions, feel free to email me at karin@knelsonart.com.

I believe this might be Pentwater.
In Ludington State Park, there are miles and miles of this view on the right, and Lake Michigan plus grassy dunes on the left.

Dunes at Macatawa

Dunes at Macatawa – 30″ x 40″ acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. Available.

Just a couple hundred yards away from my last dune painting is this sight. For locals, you will readily recognize it. This is where Lake Macatawa channels into Lake Michigan in Holland State Park. Just one of the breathtaking cities / locations along the lake.

The sun was at such a striking angle, it set this painting up for success. In fact, I feel like I couldn’t have wrecked it if I tried. Well, at least that’s how it felt…which is always a nice thing, because they don’t always work that way.

Happy summer,

Karin

Dune Shadows

Dune Shadows, 36″ x 48″ acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas. Available.

The sand dunes take on some interesting hues as they reflect the nearby environment; and I love them all!!! My goal in this painting was to reflect those wonderful nuances in rich, thick applications of heavy-body paints.

A view of the gorgeous sand dunes near Holland, Michigan – about a 30 minute drive from our house.

I hope you are having a lovely start to your summer. Ours is still trying to get off the ground! But I love cool weather, so you won’t hear any complaints from me.
