Dressed in Black

Dressed in Black – 36×36 acrylic on canvas. Available for purchase.

I really do love black (just like I really love white); but I seem to hold myself back from painting with it very often. This scene took away all my excuses. Everything I loved about it was because of the black. Top it off with that sparkling white jewel sitting atop the middle barn, and … oh!

These gorgeous barns are near one of my favorite and oft-painted corners: 8th Avenue and Byron Road. If I could live in an old farmhouse, it would be on Byron Road at the top of the hill which is just west of this site. In the meantime, my husband and I just take frequent road trips there…and dream. There’s something about a drive in the country that renews the soul.

    1. Gale, some of it is ultramarine blue mixed with burnt umber; and some is black out of the tube. I usually never use black straight out of the tube, but I was feeling like a rebel and thought, why not?

    BEAUTIFUL!!!
Still “thinking” about trying acrylics. Don’t feel I have a good handle on pastels so hesitant to leave them quite yet. I am afraid if I try acrylics I may never go back to pastels.
Happy 2017 and keep up great work!
