“The Point” – A Remarkable Commission Experience

This commissioned painting for Jeff and Julia Poole flowed with special inspiration. Julia very wisely provided me with not only a photo of “the point” (the view from the family’s lake cottage); she also gave me an old photo of Jeff fishing with their young daughter (shown below). Even though the dad/daughter photo had very little of the background scenery that I would be painting, I absorbed a feeling by looking at that nostalgic moment. It was as if I had stepped back in time and experienced a quiet interlude in that very spot.

I met Jeff and Julia Poole as a result of them viewing some of my paintings in the GR Regional Exhibition last year. They are avid art collectors, and have since added two of my paintings to their collection, as well as commissioning this special painting titled “The Point” for Jeff’s dad’s 80th birthday. The lake retreat has been special to their family since Jeff was a young boy himself, so I was honored to be a part of this significant event in their family’s life. Truly, truly honored.
